Overview: SCYC’s Skate Club Program Instructor will provide out-of-school time programming for middle and high school-aged youth one day a week. This position will be responsible for supporting our Skate Club Program, and working together with our current Skate Club Program Instructor to create engaging programming for students. While it is not required for this position to be knowledgeable about skateboarding, it is helpful.

Duties
-
Work collaboratively with the current Skate Club Program Instructor

Run programming every Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 at the Cortez Skatepark or Beech Street Skate
-
Set an intentional structure each day of Skate Club through programming
-
Teach young people to skateboard, scooter, or bike at the Cortez Skatepark one day a week
-
Bring a fun and engaging atmosphere to the young participants

Manage the space to create a safe environment for participants

Leadership
-
Act as a representative of SCYC programs and promote positive youth development for youth in Montezuma County
-
Provide a positive learning environment for students, utilizing positive youth development principles, such as valuing student choice and connection with a trusted adult

Recruit students to participate in the program

Create a fun and engaging program environment that is safe for youth and families

Ensure safety of program participants and staff during programming, field trips, and events

Financial Responsibilities

Follow SCYC policies around credit card use when purchasing program supplies and record expenses as directed by SCYC policies; return receipts in a complete and timely manner

Maintain organizational and personal integrity surrounding money use and budgeting
Teamwork
-
Act as a team member to other out-of-school time staff as well as SCYC staff

Maintain an in-kind donations database with the exact or estimated value of donated articles

Communicate with your designated Site Coordinator and SCYC Program Director as needed

Other tasks as assigned
Care/Passion for Young People
-
Act as part of a team that supports young people becoming leaders in their community

Model Positive Youth Development, Trauma Informed Care, and the creation of safe spaces for youth
-
Keep abreast of current literature on youth development.

Include a youth voice in organizational decisions when appropriate
Logistics
-
Responsible management of Skate Club gear, including maintaining up-to-date inventory lists
-
Ability to record time worked on timesheets and turn in, in a timely manner

Ability to pass a CBI/FBI background check
Compensation
