At Medicine Horse Center, we run therapeutic programs where people work with horses to heal their mind, body, and spirit. We are looking for young people ages 16 and up to volunteer with our Therapeutic Riding Program. This program helps people with physical or mental limitations improve their muscle tone, motor development, balance skills, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Volunteers are needed at various times depending on the client’s schedule. Their roles include sidewalking (for client balance and safety) and leading the horse in sessions. This is a great opportunity for young people to increase their communication/assertiveness skills, experience working with clients with disabilities and learn how they live their everyday lives, and understand how equine therapy assists with balance, coordination, cognition, and self-esteem. This work is quite eye-opening AND rewarding!
If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the volunteer form and mail it to the Medicine Horse Center Headquarters at P.O. 1074, Mancos, CO 81328.
